It was also a political move by Polk in order to get more votes and to create more slave states. This was the reason that Polk sent the soldiers out and was so eager to claim American blood lost on American soil which shows it wasn't necessarily justified in the way they said at the time.
The Mexican-American war at the time was considered completely justified. It was only until just recently that the motives behind the war were thought to be questionable. It is likely that a war between Mexico and America was inevitable, and that Polk simply decided to be the first one to make a move. It is also clear that the war was very popular in America (Polk was elected president under the promise that he would annex Texas) and that the American people were upset with the Mexican government (they owed American citizens a total of 2 million in debt). It is hard to say if the Mexican-American war was justified. This is because our interpretation of history is a constantly changing thing, and any war can be questioned as justified.
Not exactly, it was just a cheap(er) way to get land that we felt we need, all in the name of "Manifest Destiny"
